Orange Bauhaus

The Bauhaus Ausstellung of July–September 1923 was the first major public exhibition of the Staatliches Bauhaus — the school founded in Weimar in 1919 that changed the direction of European graphic and industrial design. The exhibition's visual identity — minimal, geometric, typographically confident — has remained one of the most referenced in design history. This is a contemporary reinterpretation of that idiom: the orange diagonal bar, the large orange circle, the concentric line spiral, bold black type.

The palette is three things: cream, orange, and black. The cream ground gives the orange its temperature — warm, committed, just slightly retro. The composition is asymmetric but entirely balanced. The typeface is confident without being aggressive.

This is a piece that works best in a room that already takes design seriously — alongside a lamp with clear formal logic, a chair that earns its place, books on shelves that aren't arranged by colour. It will be recognised in a home where someone knows it, and is entirely legible in a home where they don't.
